Chikuseiko bamboo incense is the original product of Kohchosai Kosuga (a five-generation bamboo craft maker who used to be a purveyor to the Imperial and court families), manufactured using proprietary techniques to make incense from charcoal, by a specialist manufacturer in Awaji-shima who has been in the business since the mid-19th century. This collaboration is the first of its kind between a hair salon and a Japanese heritage artisan, which signifies SHHH’s reverence for outstanding craftsmanship. This product is the latest addition to SHHH’s collaborative creations made by expert artisans around the world that can be enjoyed by anyone.

Not all incenses are created equal. Unlike conventional incenses which often contain synthetic fragrances, impurities and emit a lot of smoke, this Chikuseiko incense is 100% natural, comprising bamboo charcoal, bamboo vinegar and pure hinoki essence that neither transfers nor lingers.

It is believed that the many active elements contained in bamboo have deodorising and air filtering properties that would be beneficial for our living space. Using bamboo vinegar and bamboo charcoal produced from the carbonisation of bamboo as the main ingredients, this incense is made entirely from natural components and produces very little smoke.
