Riedel first revolutionized the world of wine in 1958 when it discovered that the flavour of wine can be significantly changed by the shape of the glass. This discovery was made as a result of Claus Riedel’s creation of the Sommeliers Burgundy Grand Cru: the world’s first “egg-shaped” wine glass.
1. WINEWINGS

With the launch of the machine-made Winewings, Riedel has taken yet another bold step forward in enhancing the enjoyment of wine among millions of fans through its unrelenting emphasis on innovation and research.
The new shape is the result of 12 months of development by Georg Riedel. It features a flat bottom and is reminiscent of an airplane wing and winglets.
“I chose a flat and stretched bottom with a wing-like shape as it increases the surface area of the wine exposed to oxygen. This leads to greater levels of evaporation and enables a greater intensity of aroma,” says Georg. “When positioning one’s head to the glass, the nose is closer to the exposed and wider surface of the wine. This alone would not fully deliver the optimal aroma of each grape variety so, to capture the delicate layered aromas, it was necessary to curve the glass walls and to correctly calibrate the opening of each glass with its rim diameter.”
Winewings is Riedel’s first collection that elevates the minerality in wine, bringing it into harmony with the wine’s fruit characteristics and leading to a more well-rounded, complex and richer experience.
Winewings retails for HK$295 per glass. There are seven different shapes within the range: Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Oaked Chardonnay, and Champagne.
The 2020 collection also includes a gracefully shaped hand-made decanter reminisicent of a wing. This Winewings Swan Decanterretails for HK$3,750 per piece and is limited to just 12 pieces in Hong Kong.
2. CORNETTO CONFETTI
Cornetto Confetti Decanter, retail price: HK$1,750 per piece
With Cornetto Confetti, Riedel has unveiled a range of fun and colourful decanters aimed at the casual wine drinker who wants to own a signature hand-made item. Compact, easy-to-handle, easy-to-store, and easy-to-clean, these decanters are perfect for Hong Kong’s growing community of wine lovers.
Confetti is available in four colours (blue, red, yellow and green) and sells for HK$1,750 per piece.
3. HIGH PERFORMANCE
High Performance wine glass, retail price: HK$995 per glass
At 32.5cm tall, High Performance is arguably Riedel’s most glamorous collection of wine glasses yet. Featuring the tallest stem ever attached to a functional wine glass, High Performance is designed for special occasions – or for those who simply want to show off as the host!
Red, hand-made stems have been attached to Performance bowls, ensuring that the range is as functional as it is beautiful.
Available in four shapes: Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot, Pinot Noir, Riesling and Champagne. Each glass retails for HK$995.
